The One about the RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

When it comes to mechanical keyboards, a company that has been making a lot of positive noise is RK Royal Kludge.

Founded in 2015 by passionate gamers aiming to create the perfect mechanical keyboard, the group created the RK61 which would feature high quality switches and backlighting and gain respect from gamers for its quality and low cost.

RK Royal Kludge features high quality mechanical switches and options such as linear, tactile and clicky switches.

Today I am checking out the RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard which are triple mode (Plug via USB-C, Bluetooth 5.1 and Wireless 2.4G), has RGB lighting, lubed stabilizers, 98 keys, hot swappable switches (PCB supports 3 pins/5 pins switches), 2 built-in USB pass-through ports and one type-C port and a high capacity 3750mAh battery.

The addition of the USB ports is great, for those who need to plug in a USB device, such as a wired mouse.

They offer red (quiet), brown (between red and blue) and blue switches (clicky).

The keyboard features an anti-slip and two-stage tilt outriggers and for the most part, typing on this keyboard is quite smooth and I have no problems typing quickly on it for work and also for gaming.

I tend to use a combination of various switches, and I like the brown switches for this RK98 because it provides a bit of quietness but also a bit of a click that goes smoothly, so I do give a major thumbs up on to RK Royal Kludge for making a responsive keyboard that works very well.

As for backlighting, hitting Fn and PrtSc lets you changed the modes and you can easily adjust brightness and speed with the Fn key and the arrow keys.

4As for battery reminder, there is an LED light in between the main keyboard keys and numeric pad, so you can see if the keyboard needs to be charged.

You can also do custom backlights as well.

And last, the RK98 does come with four extra brown switches, key cap puller and charging USB-C cable.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the RK Royal Kludge keyboard. The RK98 wireless mechanical keyboard offers a variety of functions and the smooth typing that I really do like a lot.

With that being said, what makes this 98% keyboard different from the company’s 96% are the extra keys. You get a Home, Ins, Pg Up and Pg Down keycaps for the 98%, while that space on the 96% usually utilizes that space for the volume up/down scroll wheel and mute button.

So, that would be the deciding factor if you prefer the RK98 vs. the RK96. Are those four extra buttons more important to you? Or is that volume scroll wheel more important for you?

Personally, I prefer mechanical keyboards with the volume scroll wheel which I utilize a lot. But it all comes down to preference for others.

Overall, I do like the keyboard but with a lot of competition in the mechanical keyboard industry at different pricepoints, definitely do your own due diligence and seeing if the under $80 price point of the RK98, and not having a volume scroll wheel is for you.

The RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard is recommended!
