The One about the mouhike Family Fishing Pole Combo 2PCS Parent-Child Portable Travel Fishing Kit

Today I am reviewing the  mouhike Family Fishing Pole Combo 2PCS Parent-Child Portable Travel Fishing Kit which includes a plethora of fishing goodies for a parent and child.

You get a blue/black/gray combo carrying case, you get a fish lip gripper, fishing pliers, two storage boxes with artificial lures, jig rigs, hard lures, hooks and more!

And of course, on top of that, you get two telescopic rods. One for the parent, which is the spinning rod/reel and the baitcasting rod/reel for the kids.

All this for $45!

But is it worth it?

Before I get into the rods and reels, let’s talk about the gear first.

The fish lip gripper is actually tight and one-hand use with a wrist strap. Sure, compared to the fish lip grippers I own, this one looks generic but by no means is it bad. It doesn’t have a built-in scale but no need, as a lot of fish lip gripper with scales have problems with illegible marks. While it’s small, it’s fine because you will be using two fingers to push the black holder down while your palm is at the end. No need to hold the entire grip like trigger-based fish lip grippers. I like it and it’ll work for fishing.

The fishing pliers is also generic but by no means is it bad. It has a fishing line cutter, split ring tool and crimping slots. What you don’t get is the big grip of a more expensive fishing plier and anti-corrosive metal. But you probably will not get these wet, so they work perfectly fine.

Now what is in the two storage boxes? You get a 1.98 inch and 2.75 inch duck bill fishing hard lures. For artificial lures, you get the 5 2.16 inch paddle tail worms, 2 1.96 inch paddle tail glow worm, five 3.34 inch pink paddletail, five red 1.85 inch lure, 5 weights, 1 jig hook, 3 artificial corn, 10 0.19 inch split rings, 10 .19 inch white beads, 2 1.77 inch green frog lures, 2 1.98 inch spoon, 7 1.18 EGW offset barbed hooks and 10 .98 inch maggot worm. So, there is no doubt that this set is for those wanting to learn how to jig fish.

And now, the rods.

Granted, I tend to replace the line for any combos, but I figured I would keep the original line and test it.

Both rods are telescopic and depending on the person, is a telescopic rod for you? I know in Japan and Korea, there are those who like them because it saves space and you don’t have to deal with additional pieces ala travel rods. And considering for some people in Asia ride public transportation, it makes sense of why telescopic rods are ideal. But I will say that you get nearly 7-inch when fully extended and by twisting, it locks things in place and rod segments don’t fall straight down.

The spinning reel is “Yumoshi” and has a high-capacity CNC aluminum spool. It’s black with green aluminum which is pretty cool to look at and surprisingly, I had no problems casting with this rod/reel spinning combo. While it doesn’t really show what max weight the pole will have, I think it’s safe to use a 6-10 lb line.

No problems with the stainless steel guide with ceramic rings, no problems placing the reel in the sturdy reel seat, handle is a comfortable eVA handle and the rod body is made of carbon fiber.

So, for a telescopic rod and reel combo that nearly reaches 7 feet, it’s definitely cool to see this be the centerpiece of this set.

And last, we have the baitcast reel with light blue telescopic rod. Easy to use the baitcaster, handle is comfortable EVA and guide rings are made of stainless steel and because it’s a shorter 4.92 foot telescopic rod, I wish I could give the baitcaster a positive review but it’s not that great. In fact, the baitcasting reel itself has a button you press when casting that gets stuck. There is no way to control the line or pause it with your thumb. And when retrieving, the drag wheel is not the best. I have it set all the way to max and it still takes a while to reel back.

If anything seemed super cheap, it’s the baitcaster. So, if you have a baitcasting reel laying around, I would swap this out with one.

But, the purpose was teaching a child on how to fish and so they made a baitcaster without having to worry about birdsnest or backlash. If anything, it’s for the kids to learn. And it serves that function.

But overall, you are getting a lot for your money with this set at $45! The spinning rod/reel combo, the amount of lures that you get, fish lip gripper, fishing pliers already makes it worth the price. Baitcasting reel and combo is an extra for a child but added on the list with other gear included in this set, $45 is a pretty good deal for what you get in this set alone.
