ARTIST: Landon McNamara

SINGLE: If You Only Knew

DURATION: 4 Minutes

RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2022

Landon McNamara is a professional surfer, singer and model.

Son of professional surfers, 1990 Pipe Champ Liam McNamara and nephew of big wave/extreme surfer GMAC (Garrett McNamara), needless to say that the McNamara’s are well known, especially in the Haleiwa, North Shore in Oahu.

There are many surfers who have been able to transition from competing in surfing competitions, showcased on surf magazines and videos and have had the same amount of press as a music artists.

Examples are Jack Johnson, Tom Curren, Donavon Frankenreiter, Makua Rothman, Ben Howard and yeah, even Kelly Slater and Rob Machado had their own band at one time.

And there are music artists who surf such as Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Anthony Kiedis and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jason Mraz to name a few.

In Hawaii, for the island reggae scene, Landon McNamara is well-known.

In 2016, McNamara released his debut album “A Dollar Short & a Minut Late” which debuted at no. 1 on the iTunes reggae album chart.

Having released two albums, McNamara released his first independent release in July 14, 2022 titled “If You Only Knew”.

The song delves into the thing that people think about, and that is “if you were to die tomorrow, what would you do today?”.

Inspired by his drummer and good friend Kimo who visited his father hours before he passed away, McNamara would work in “If You Only Knew”, which his friend also produced.

The lyrics are quite deep and profound:

Well… first things first I know I’m far from perfect,
I lick my wounds and chalk it up to learning,
But as life goes on and that time keeps burning,
Find myself yearning for something more..
The money the jewelry the flashy car,
Only last so long and take you so far…
before you got to look in the mirror, and it becomes clearer that you’re completely lost

Well if you were to die tomorrow
What would you do today?
When you take that last breath, would you feel content with how that time was spent?

What best to showcase a video with his son, his wife and friends.  It’s one thing that McNamara has always shown what’s important in his life, which he often shows how grateful he is  on social media and that is for his ohana (family).

But it’s a cool reggae song but definitely lyrics that really make you want to think and reflect on the most important things in life other than material things.

I also want to plug his albums “A Dollar Short & A Minute Late” (2016) and “Still Kickin'” (2019) plus his many collaborations which include “Neil Armstrong” with the Common Kings, “Dog’s Gotta Eat” and “Dodging Bullets” with Mickey Avalon and most recently, “Wild Trip” with DENM.

Definitely check McNamara’s music out!
