The One about uploading your raw DNA data to DNA.LAND

Recently, I have noticed that Ancestry has made a few tweaks to their DNA section and it has done a much better job of starting to narrow things down to a region.  When I last blogged about my DNA results, it would just feature Asia East, Asia South and Polynesia but noticed that it started to narrow things down to Philippines and Guam.

And it was interesting to compare things with my brother, Charles.

This time around, we both submitted our raw DNA from Ancestry to DNA.LAND which is a free.  DNA.LAND is non-profit and run by academics affiliated with Columbia University and the NY Genome Center and all that is needed is your raw DNA which you can download from Ancestry or other DNA sites and uploaded to DNA.LAND with your consent.

GEDMatch

Previously, I have uploaded my DNA to GEDMatch which compares your DNA to the oldest DNA out there and also you can utilize other tests.

But we heard that DNA.LAND does a great job of  breaking things down even further, so my brother and I tried it.

It was easy to upload and the wait time probably less than week.

Here are our results:

The results were very interesting to see because my brother and I look different.  He has lighter skin and is tall, while I have darker skin and I’m shorter by a few inches.

According to DNA.LAND, I have 46% Taiwanese, he has 41%.  He is 89% Southeast Asian, I am 83%.  I have Japanese/Korean 4%, while he has 2.8%, he has a West Eurasian of 3.8%, I have none.  While I have 1.1% Native American, he doesn’t.  And I have 9% Cambodian/Thai, while he has 2%.

So, for those who have gotten their DNA tests, I definitely recommend uploading your raw data to DNA.LAND.  It’s free, it’s easy and you may be surprised by the results from DNA.LAND compared to your earlier results.
