JR Kyushu President Yoji Komiya: “Next Amu is starting, and Amu Plaza Tenjin will be born in the spring of 2027.” Amu Plaza Tenjin will open after renovating “VIORO,” a commercial facility managed and operated by JR Hakata City. This will be the first time that “Amu Plaza” has expanded outside of a train station building, and the renovation will be carried out in stages without any closure period.
They also revealed their plan to introduce new rolling stock to the sightseeing train “Yufuin no Mori,” which connects Hakata with Yufuin and Beppu. There are two “Yufuin no Mori” train sets, and the “first generation” train, which has been running since the start of operations in 1989, will be retired and replaced with new rolling stock.
The new model is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2031. President Yoji Komiya said, “Nothing has been decided yet, including the designer, but we want to create something that inherits the image while making the most of its strengths.”
