For those who are visiting or living in Japan, they probably have seen a lot of “HUB British Pub” throughout the Kanto region. But what is “82 Ale House”?
Well, 82 Ale House is also owned by the same company behind the “HUB British Pub”.
Nakauchi Isao, who was the founder of The Daiei, Inc. was a guy impressed by British pub culture when he visited England that he wanted to bring that culture to Japan. So, the first HUB was opened in Kobe Sannomiya (this HUB is no longer around) in 1980.
In 2005, the company wanted to establish the 82 brand of businesses which sell their own ale. So, 82 Ale House was founded and the first was started in Kanda, followed by another in Shinagawa. And in 2006, 82 Ale House expanded to Akasaka, Kannai and Sanda and has continued on to this very day.
While HUB of course is everywhere in Japan, 82 Ale House is a place where people can get drinks which aren’t too expensive during Happy Hour. One is a Standard Highball (560 yen), Morikaoru Hakushu Highball (640 yen), Yamazaki Highball (640 yen), 82 Fruit Highball (560 yen) and of course, 82 Real Ale (1000 yen), Guinness (1020 yen), Kirin Lager Beer (820 yen) and Shandy Gaff (400/560 yen).
They also offer a variety of single malt whisky, world whisky, cocktails and spirits such as Beefeater, The Botanist, Cuervo Gold, Ron Zacapa Centaolio 23Y, Grey Goose and Plum Liqueur.
And if you are a non-drinker, you also have the option of Red Bull, Oolong Tea, Coca Cola, Ginger Ale, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice and Grapefruit Juice.
And of course, the big attraction is for events with friends and to watch sports (in Japan, it’s primarily soccer) and of course, for those wanting to try their 82 Real Ale.
