Michael (Colin Lawrence) is a devoted single father to 8-year-old Lily, an aspiring ballerina. After a video goes viral of them doing an adorable ballet routine, women everywhere want to date him, but he only has eyes for Olivia (AnnaLynne McCord).
We are a few days from Christmas and the next holiday telefilm I am watching is “Dancing Through Christmas” which aired back on Lifetime Television back in 2021.
The film is directed by Paul Shapiro (“Heroes”, “24”) and written by Adam Rockoff (“Christmas Matchmakers”, “A Daughter’s Deception”).
The film stars AnnaLynne McCord (“90210”, “Scorned”, “Fired Up!”), Colin Lawrence (“Riverdale”, “Battlestar Galactica”, “Virgin River”), Bianca Lawrence, Candus Churchill (“Jennifer’s Body”, “Tooth Fairy”, “Firewall”), Kheon Clarke (“Superman & Lois”, “The Flash”, “The Magicians”), Lydia Campbell (“Riverdale”, “Away”) and more.
The film introduces us to two characters.
Michael Foster (portrayed by Colin Lawrence) is a single father. He is a firefighter trying to raise his daughter Lily (portrayed by Bianca Lawrence) and support her desire to become a ballerina. It hasn’t been easy for the Foster’s, since the death of Michael’s wife and Lily’s mother. But he wants to be there for her and often relying on his mother, Anne (portrayed by Candus Churchill) to help taking care of Lily.
One day, Michael becomes a viral video sensation when his friend Noah (portrayed by Kheon Clarke) shoots a video of the two dancing ballet and posted it up online.
Olivia (portrayed by AnnaLynne McCord) is a dancer and she is also Lily’s ballet teacher. Unfortunately, the school is not doing great as she is unable to pay for the money she took out for a loan to build the school. She is considering closing the school to leave to Florida. Her friend Jordyn (portrayed by Lydia Campbell) is hoping for her to stay.
Both Michael and Olivia meet each other while they are looking for a Christmas tree and the two end up meeting each other and start spending time with each other. And for Michael, this is the first time he has felt these emotions since his wife and for Olivia, she also has fallen for Michael. But for Lily, it may not be easy to see her father falling for another woman.
But are Michael and Lily ready to move on?
I mentioned in 2021 that AnnaLynne McCord is one of the holiday actresses to watch each year (yes, I have said the same about Candace Cameron-Bure, Melissa Joan Hart and a few others) and she has been appearing in holiday films since 2014.
McCord is also one of the few Caucasian actresses in holiday films paired of men who are of different ethnicities, in 2021 with Colin Lawrence and also Mario Lopez in 2020 and as mentioned, I credit Lifetime for showcasing more interracial relationships and also featuring families of different ethnicities.
As mentioned in previous reviews, I am supportive of the progression of holiday films, being an Asian American man with a Caucasian wife.
As for the film itself, I enjoyed it, as it’s a film about two people who fall in love, one who lost his wife years ago and meeting a woman who makes him feel “love” again and a woman who also falls in love but doesn’t want to be in the way of a father and daughter bond.
For the most part, “Dancing through Christmas” is an enjoyable holiday telefilm. Definitely check it out!
