[UPDATED]: The One about events and theme parks in Tokyo that may be affected by the coronavirus

The Tokyo Outdoor Weekend Show (which is held next to Tokyo Big Sight at the Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park) which showcases music, fashion and activities for families and individuals who enjoy the outdoor life is slated for March 14th and 15th. But many people are wondering if the event will be postponed due to the coronavirus. Currently, the Executive Committee is discussing whether or not the event will be held, giving top priority to the safety and security of visitors. For those attending Japan’s largest anime convention, AnimeJapan 2020 at Tokyo Big Sight on March 21-22 (Public Days), at this current time, the event is still a go! But on February 17th, they did announce that the event may be canceled depending on the spread of the coronavirus. https://www.anime-japan.jp/

For now, for the safety of the visitors, they are asking visitors to take measures:

– Wear a mask at the venue (you will need to remove your mask to confirm identity when entering).
– Alcohol disinfectant will be installed near busy areas and entrance of the venue
– If you are suffering from a fever, cough or pain, to please visit your designated medical institution.
– Please wash your hands thoroughly
– Please do not overdo it if you are feeling unwell.
– If you have a fever or are in poor physical condition, you may be refused entrance.
– Staff will provide guidance in order to prevent any infection to visitors and operating staff


In a surprise to travelers who were planning to be visiting Sanrio Puroland and Harmonyland, the theme parks announced they will be closing temporarily due to the coronavirus.

Sanrio Puroland announced:

We are sorry to inform that Sanrio Puroland will temporarily close to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in Japan and overseas.

In consideration of the safety of our customers and employees, the park will be temporarily close from February 22 (Sat) to March 12 (Thu).

Thank you for your understanding.

Harmonyland had the same exact message and also announced that tickets that were purchased and set to expire between February 22-March 31, the tickets can be used through Wednesday, September 30th.


The Ghibli Museum has announced on their website that they are temporarily closing from February 25th to March 17th.

According to the website:

On Friday, February 21st, the City of Mitaka announced that it will act in accordance to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s decision to cancel or postpone its major indoor events for the next three weeks in order to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Accordingly, The Ghibli Museum, Mitaka, in mutual agreement with the City of Mitaka, shall close temporarily from Tuesday, February 25th to Tuesday, March 17th, 2020.

A full refund will be offered to those holding February and March ticket reservations. The refund procedures will be announced shortly.

We apologize to our visitors who have been looking forward to visiting the Museum. We shall continue to monitor the situation, so please check the museum website for further updates.

Tokyo Disney Resort requests the cooperation of all our Guests in helping to prevent contagion and stop the spread of the new coronavirus by following the points below.

▪ Guests feeling unwell due to possible cold symptoms are requested to refrain from visiting the Parks.
▪ When using the restrooms in the Parks, please wash your hands and use the supplied hand sanitizer.
▪ If you feel unwell or your physical condition worsens while inside the Park, please contact the nearest Staff Member.

Starting January 28 Staff Members will be wearing face masks.


Fujiko F. Fujio Museum has announced that they will be offering “Tranfer Entry” and “Refund” due to the impact of the coronavirus.
