Having reviewed a Turtle Beach headset for the PS4 several years ago, I wanted to revisit Turtle Beach via their Elite Pro 2 headset and the SuperAmp Pro.
It’s important to note that the use of the SuperAmp Pro allows one to use this for their computer as well.
First, let’s talk about the headset.
First, let’s get this out of the way…this is a WIRED headset, not wireless.
The Elite Pro 2 headset features a metal headband with a suspended pad and comfortable Aerofit earcups.
With a bendable mic with TruSpeak Technology, the mute function is located on an adapter on the cord, not on the headset.
Now, the Elite SuperAmp is quite easy. Plug to a USB port for power, plug in your headphones to the amp and you can personalize settings like Dynamic Chat Boost and EQ Audio Presets (via the Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app) and you can also stream music and take calls while gaming. The unit also has Bluetooth connectivity to mobile app. The amp has also an optical in and also audio out.
As for the app…you have to connect and make your changes before it loses the Bluetooth connection. Press the left and you can choose from a mix of game or chat, mic monitor, turn on/off superhuman hearing, chat boost, select surround mode – Game, Movie, Music, Stereo and select Game Presets – Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Bass and Treble Boost or Vocal Boost.
I personally like the opportunity to up the bass and treble through the mobile app, but if there was one caveat, for me, Bluetooth kept disconnecting from my phone to the Amp. So, if I wanted to do thorough tests with the various presets, it was a challenge as my Bluetooth was disconnecting over and over.
But once I got my settings ready, I have to say that the bass/treble boost made a big difference for me. I like the clarity of these headphones and it’s important to note that the Amp works great, but those who want to go even louder, the Amp’s maximum setting may not be for everyone. Personally, I’m fine with it as I have dealt with other headphones where it started too loud that I felt my eardrum was aching for week.
But for gaming alone or even watching films with action sequences, I like the bass on these headphones and the overall crystal clear clarity.
Some may find the headset + amp to be a bit pricey but Turtle Beach quality headphones from past to present were typically not always on the cheap side either.
For those wanting a wireless headset may want to go for the Stealth 700’s but for those that want a very good gaming headset + an amp, the Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 is very good and worth owning!
