I was looking for a rod holder that can attach to my fishing wader belt and so I discovered the Hoffen Aluminum Alloy Rod Clip with Stainless Steel Zinger which costs about $23 (but a coupon puts it at $17) and comes in blue, black and red.
Made with an alloy shell, stainless stell mountain buckle and high density EVA, these are marketed as durable, rust resistant and UV resistant.
Now, there are a few things that I need to be clear. The photos showcasing a larger rod holder right on the fishing handle is not entirely correct. What this rod can hold are rods that stay slim towards the bottom, in this case finesse rods. The EVA portion is slightly slim and I tested with a few of my rods and it seems the finesse rods and you may get by with an ultra light rod if you bend the EVA foam and rod holder a bit, but I felt the finesse rod was the perfect fit and felt the most snug when it came to hold on the actual body of my fishing rod if you want it to hold right above the reel/handle.
As for the line, I wished it would extend to about 4 ft. but you get about 2 ft. But still, the main reason for me to get this was to carry another rod on the belt of my wader without having to put the rod through the belt. You can probably attach it to a clip on your backpack as well.
But if you are looking for a rod holder to clip on that can hold finesse rods and even ultra light rods, give the the Hoffen Aluminum Alloy Rod Clip with Stainless Steel Zinger a try!
