In 100 years, fishing spots might disappear. We’re holding an event where anglers can think about casting their line for the future!
Kingfisher Co., Ltd. (593 Otsurenzawa, Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture) will hold an experiential event themed on climate change countermeasures, “CAST FOR THE FUTURE,” at its managed fishing area “Anglers Park Kingfisher” (same location as above) on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
This event is based on the desire to “preserve fishing for the next 100 years,” and is a participatory event where participants can learn about the impact of climate change on fishing and aquaculture from the perspective of anglers, and think about what they can do to help.
This initiative, where a managed fishing area takes the lead in directly addressing climate change, is rare nationwide, and Kingfisher positions this event as the first step in “climate change action by anglers.”

■Background of this event
This event was born from the desire to “preserve fishing for the next 100 years.”
In recent years, the effects of climate change, such as record-breaking heat waves, torrential rains, and droughts, have become increasingly severe throughout Japan. The environment surrounding fishing is no exception. Rainbow trout, a popular target for anglers, are sensitive to high water temperatures and are known to suffer significant damage when the water temperature exceeds 20°C.
According to future projections published by Tochigi Prefecture, if no additional greenhouse gas emission reduction measures are taken (SSP5-8.5), the average temperature in the prefecture is projected to rise by approximately 4.5 to 5.5°C by the end of the 21st century compared to the end of the 20th century.
From the Tochigi Climate Change Countermeasures Portal Site ( https://zerocarbon.pref.tochigi.lg.jp/current-status-and-forecast/ )
At Kingfisher, we feel that change every day on the job site.
Despite utilizing the abundant spring water of the Nasu mountain range, rising water temperatures have led to an increase in days when fish activity declines. Furthermore, a drought occurred in the spring of 2026, causing serious damage to the fish. In addition, high water temperatures and heavy rains have caused damage to fish farms in various locations, leading to unstable fish supplies and rising fish prices.
We didn’t want to simply dismiss this change as “it’s just natural” and leave it at that.
If climate change continues at this rate, in 100 years, we may face a future where children can no longer enjoy rainbow trout fishing.
It’s not just fish that we want to protect.
Fishing is a culture that people can become completely absorbed in.
■ The future envisioned by the brand “Passion for people.”
Brand message
Kingfisher’s brand message is “To inspire passion in people.”
We believe that spending time immersed in nature enriches life and that hobbies become a source of vitality.
That is why our mission is to preserve that time for future generations, even 100 years from now.
A fishing spot is not just a place to catch fish.
We also want this to be a place where people can connect with nature, reflect on the future, and contemplate its future.
“CAST FOR THE FUTURE” is the challenge that brought that vision to life.
■Event details
The event offers content that allows participants to experience the seemingly complex topic of “climate change” from the perspective of an angler in an enjoyable way.
Visitors will learn about environmental actions they can take in their daily lives and through fishing as they visit each booth in a stamp rally format. There will be booths offering experiences on energy conservation and renewable energy, sponsored by Forward to 1985 energy life and supported by nearby company Saito Construction Co., Ltd., as well as food and beverage booths themed on local production and consumption, supported by local farmers in Otawara City, Furuya Agricultural Products . In addition, there will be a power supply demonstration from the “Outlander PHEV” with the cooperation of East Japan Mitsubishi Motors Sales Co., Ltd. , a salt-grilled rainbow trout experience using a solar cooker with the cooperation of the Tochigi Prefecture Global Warming Prevention Activity Promotion Center (sponsor), and an eco-diagnosis for your home, among other activities that families can enjoy and learn from.
Furthermore, those who experience all the booths will receive an original spoon with a design exclusive to this event.
Event-exclusive original lure
We want to convey that environmental problems are not something to “endure,” but rather “options for enjoying the future.”
Anglers are the ones who feel the changes in nature more closely than anyone else, such as water temperature, water volume, seasonal changes, and the reactions of fish. That’s why I believe there are actions that only anglers can take to address climate change.
“Your single cast will shape the future of fishing 100 years from now.”
We hope this event will inspire as many people as possible to think about the future of nature and serve as the first step in passing on a rich fishing culture to the next generation.

■ About Representative Director, Fuminori Tezuka
Representative Director of Kingfisher Co., Ltd., Vice President of Nasunogahara Junior Chamber International for 2026, and Tochigi Prefecture Global Warming Prevention Activity Promotion Officer.
Born in 1993 in Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture.
After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Saitama University, he worked in planning and tour guiding at a travel agency. In 2018, he returned to his hometown to take over the family business, which was facing a financial crisis, and joined Kingfisher Co., Ltd. He rebuilt the company, which had been in a state of insolvency for many years, and became its representative director in 2025.
Based on the concept of “living in harmony with nature,” which has been passed down since the company’s founding, and with the brand message “Giving people passion,” the company is working to evolve managed fishing grounds from “places to catch fish” to “places that provide time to be engrossed in nature.”
■Comment from our company representative
When I witnessed the fish weakening due to the heat of the summer of 2025 and the drought of the spring of 2026, I felt a strong sense of crisis, thinking, “If things continue like this, fishing will become impossible in 100 years.”
It’s not just fish that we want to protect.
Fishing is a culture that allows you to become engrossed in nature and enriches your life.
Anglers are sometimes called “guardians of the waterfront.”
Because we receive so much from nature, we want to take the first step to protect our future.
I would be delighted if CAST FOR THE FUTURE could mark the beginning of a new movement: “climate change action by anglers.”
Please become a partner in protecting fishing for the next 100 years.
