The One about the HOOK-EZE PR Knot Bobbin Tool, Fishing Knot Tying Tool for Braid to Leader

When it comes to making knots tighter and also reducing any damage to your fingers or even creating knots, HOOK-EZE is a company that is well-known for it.

The number of accessories that HOOK-EZE have definitely found a home in my tacklebox and even my travel case.

Today, I am reviewing the HOOK-EZE PR Knot Bobbin Tool, Fishing Knot Tying Tool for Braid to Leader.

So, what is this accessory for? It’s for creating PR Knots!

So, how does this work?

So on the bottom is the stainless steel guide tube and connecting it is a guide tube locking screw. The blue portion is the PE Line Storage Groove, then you will see Rubber O-Rings and the silver knob is the tension adjustment knob.

So, you want to put a PE line through the steel guide tube and then run the end of the line into the center of the two rubber O-rings and do 3-4 turns on the silver knob. And then do 15-20 wraps around the blue PE Line Storage Groove.

Now you would get your leader line and this is not going to be easy to describe but you wrap the main line to the leader line and this is where the instructions show you how to create a knot and then twirling the bobbin tool clockwise and then more to create a PR Bobbin Knot.

So, what the PR Knot does is you will see numerous wraps around connecting a main line to leader line. The benefit of a PR Knot is the strength and that means failure (if done correctly), the failure or snap will not be on the knot area itself. Typically with Fluoro, bad knots tend to be the snapping point but PR Knots, when done correctly, it becomes 100% snap proof. And this knot makes it easier to go through rod guides and a reel. So, it’s a definite benefit of using this knot.

But the problem is to do a PR Knot, it requires a bobbin tool and that is what you get with this accessory. Another weakness is that it takes time to get it right. It’s not an easy knot compared to other knots but it takes time. And while not a negative, you use more line trying to do a PR Knot.

So, this is a solid alternative to a FG knot. But unlike an FG knot, you need a bobbin tool for a PR Knot. I’m more of an Albright knot guy but I always wanted to do a PR Knot and the HOOK-EZE PR Knot Bobbin Tool, Fishing Knot Tying Tool for Braid to Leader is worth trying and worth owning!
