The One about the VICBOND Soft Plastic Worm Fishing Kit with 20 fishing hooks

Today I am checking out the VICBOND Soft Plastic Worm Fishing Kit with 20 fishing hooks. All this for $10, which is a pretty solid deal.

So, before I review this product, first let me say that I am an angler and YouTuber that uses a lot of JDM lure and American hard and soft plastic lures and while I tend to spend a bit on my soft plastics, I’m up for reviewing and trying everything, because most people look for a deal and are on a budget. And I’ll give you my thoughts, but also counter negative reviews.

The set comes with 20 worms that are 5.5 inch and 0.25 ounces. You get 10 gold/green and 10 orangish brown (it really depends on lighting) speckled worms and 20 fishing hooks.

Let’s talk about the worms first.

First, let’s talk about the colors.  The green and gold version will work great in murky, low-light water conditions.  This is great for predatory fish as the goldish tone is discernible color for fish and the green is also more of a darker chartreuse. But no doubt, green tends to attract bass.

As for the orangish/brown worm, this works great as when this worm goes deeper, colors shift and the brown gets darker, muddy brown for fish.

As you can see from the image comparing the two worms to a popular 5″ senko worm sold in the US, it’s a tad bit over 5 inches but they are similar in size but not as thick.  They are ribbed and have have the compression center area, so if you plan to use an O-ring (or crossover ring), no problem fitting one to the center of the compression area.  So, may you use it for wacky rigging, carolina rigging, Texas rig or ned rig (to name a few).

There is a slight hint of scent but not overpowering compared to many US brands who also for the salted and Japanese brands that are more shrimp.  But if you want to experiment with sprays and formulas that you soak, no problem.

So, let’s talk about another review here that said they weren’t straight and are crooked and deformed. Sure, but is it going to prevent you from catching fish, nope.  The crookedness is not that bad and nor am I expecting on an inexpensive case of worms for it to be perfect.

As for the plastics are quite stiff, I think that is a bit over exaggeration.  In fact, I don’t mind the not as soft as another popular senko worm brand which I love using but is very fragile due to the massive amount of salt content.  In fact, it’s not going to be as susceptible for tearing.  Now we don’t know what kind of plastics these are made of.  A lot of plastic baits are made of normal plastisol, with an exception to another popular wormmaker known for its stronger TPE worms (from a well-known maker that come in a light blue bag).

But you should not be concerned if these will work with catching fish.

Now as for the hooks, I compare the hook that the set comes with with a hook from a popular tackle company from Japan and their 2/0 Octopus hook.  Now while the hooks are similar in height as you look at the hook gap, its much larger and looks more like a 5/0 EWG hook.  These hooks are primarily for 8 to 12-inch worms and you run the chances of weed snags and reducing the worm’s action.  For these type of worms, a 2/0 or 3/0 hook would have been better.  But I’m not disappointed as I like having a lot of different types of hooks at all different sizes as my style of fishing is varied.

With that being said, the method I would use with a 5/0 EWG hook is to use Texas rigging and with casting rods (baitcasting) and flipping rods (over 7 ft.).  But while a slightly oversized hook for these worms, doesn’t mean you can’t catch fish, you can but you’ll have to pay attention if the fish are biting.  You just want to make sure that they hang perfectly straight and make sure the hook point is slightly buried in the plastic of the worm to have a more weedless effect.  Sometimes it is about timing and when to do an upward sweep.  But try an EWG or try a straight shank hook.  And do note that the cheaper the hooks are, the more prone the hooks are to rusting/corrosion.

Overall, people who are on a budget, spending $10 on this kit gets you 20 worms and 20 hooks. That’s a pretty good price.  But it’s important to remember that these are inexpensive, non-big brand fishing kits for those on a budget.  So, want bang for your buck, then give the VICBOND Soft Plastic Worm Fishing Kit with 20 fishing hooks a try!
