
In March 2011, the Kyushu Shinkansen experienced a quiet opening day when the Great East Japan Earthquake struck the day before its full line opening. In 2016, a train derailed during the Kumamoto Earthquake and was scrapped. Then, in 2026, the scrapped train was “revived” and traversed Kyushu by land and sea. We followed this project closely, which overcame two earthquakes to make it a reality.
