In today’s world of PC gaming, the fact is that more and more video games are getting larger and the problems that many had during the console era of not having enough disk space, is the reality for people who gaming on today’s modern PC’s.
Most people have a minimum of 1TB on their gaming computers these days because a single game, such as Forza Horizon 5 takes up 160GB, Forza Motorsport around 135.5 GB and who knows how large the next Forza Horizon 6 will be. Factor in other games that have a lot of DLCs, and literally you filled up your harddrive or even multiple harddrives.
Sure, there are companies such as Microsoft who have done the most wonderful thing of allowing their game Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to stream, so airplane models and environments are based on the speed of your Internet connection. But the majority of publishers and developers are not doing that, so it comes down to disk storage.
So, when purchasing a computer or building your own computer, a PC desktop, it’s important to choose a motherboard that can allow for many harddrives. But you will no doubt fill those up and your next step is to find a SSD harddrive docking station which may be the cheapest option to have extra external harddrives.
The good news is that STEAM allows you to add as many harddrives that you want. You just have to make sure that using Disk Management on Windows 11, that you assign each drive its own.
Now, if you own many SSD drives from older computers, you can use those too. Just remember to format them but you also may need to delete partitions.
Just remember the following when you are on your command prompt via admin:
Use this method if “Delete Volume” is greyed out (e.g., for recovery partitions).
Open Command Prompt as Administrator (search cmd, right-click, “Run as administrator”).
Type diskpart and press Enter.
Type list disk to find your disk number.
Type select disk X (replace X with your disk number).
Type list partition.
Type select partition Y (replace Y with the partition number).
Type delete partition override to force the deletion.
