Toyama Chihō Railway is facing serious financial difficulties. In particular, it had stated that it would begin the process of closing the “Namerikawa-Unazuki Onsen” section of its main line by the end of the year if it did not receive support or a clear policy from the municipalities along the line.
At a main line subcommittee meeting on the 29th of last month, the prefecture and the municipalities along the line decided to provide support for operating costs for the next fiscal year, thus “postponing” the decision to close the line, but a fundamental solution has not been reached.
