The One about the Acer PM161Q B 15.6″ Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS Business Slim Portable Monitor

For my latest review, I am reviewing the Acer PM161QB 15.6″ Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS Business Slim Portable Monitor.

So, what is this portable monitor and why do you need it?

For one, it’s USB-C powered, so no long power cable is needed. And the other thing is that it’s great for those who need an extra monitor for work or play. So, for me, I utilize it for testing as my OBS Studio portable laptop but also testing out OS and I also use it to connect laptops and a mini-PC and it’s all portable and easy to utilize.

It also happens to be one of the more affordable portable USB-C monitors at $138 for a 15.6″. Not bad!

So, let’s take a look at this monitor.

What do you get?

You get the monitor and it’s foldable cover (it’s magnetic, so the cover attaches behind the monitor and can be folded to be a stand). It comes with an HDMI to mini HDMI cable, a USB Type C cable.

The monitor features a 15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) Widescreen IPS Display, AMD FreeSync Technology, 4ms (G to G) with an ergonomic title of 45 to 60 degrees. The monitor also has two 1 watt speakers.

Also the monitors come with the mini-HDMI port and two USB-C ports, an audio out with volume/menu dial.

Out of the box, the Acer PM161Q B 15.6″ Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS Business Slim Portable Monitor works just perfectly.   Plugged it into my laptop and it was automatically detected.  So, it’s plug in play.

If there is one thing I do recommend, for those who need a bit more distance for their laptop/device or monitor, I do recommend getting a longer USB-C cable.  I needed more than a foot, so I used a USB-C cable.

With that being said, while the monitor is powered by USB-C, it’s important to note that it depends on your device if it supplies enough power to the monitor.  Not all devices are the same, so I actually have mine plugged into a power strip or a battery backup independent from the computer itself.  And that works perfectly for me!

The next thing some may ask is if it comes with a special case?  No, it doesn’t.  If you want to protect this device, you keep in the box it comes with, or you put it in your laptop bag/backpack.

For the most part, this works perfectly for my needs and for its price, it’s definitely worth considering.
