Angela, an American tour guide in Rome, agrees to teach a culture-shocked businessman named Oliver about the heart of Rome at Christmas. In the process, both may find that Rome is where the heart is. Stars Lacey Chabert, Sam Page.

It’s Christmas Eve, Day 54 and for today’s selection, it goes to our second Lacey Chabert holiday film of 2023.

Lacey is part of the Hallmark trinity of popular actresses alongside Alison Sweeney and Autumn Reeser (all three star in the popular “The Wedding Veil” related films) and not just that, she’s literally become the face of Hallmark since the departure of Candace Cameron Bure (who left to Great American Channel) for holiday films but also, you know how you are part of that special group when you get to shoot on location in another country.

As mentioned, to be one of the top visible actresses for Hallmark has its perks and in this case, to have a holiday telefilm shot in Rome, Italy and Bucharest, Romania, that is usually unheard of.

But for “Christmas in Rome”, they shot the film overseas, which is awesome!

The film stars Lacey Chabert as Angela, a tour guide who loves Italy so much that she has gotten in trouble of showing customers parts of Italy that are not on the tour.  And her last case, having someone eat a pastry with gluten (to a child who has an allergy towards gluten).  So, as loved as Angela is by her patrons as a tour guide, her job fires her before Christmas.

We are introduced to Oliver (portrayed by Sam Page), a businessman who tries to win the deal and now, he is assigned to score a significant business deal in Rome.  So, when he arrives, Oliver and Angela accidentally bump into each other.

But it proves to be a good stroke of luck for Oliver as Angela is the right person to help him understand Italy, the culture and how to do business and not think so much as an American.

Seeing how Angela has rescued him, he hires Angela as his personal tour guide and helping him learn enough to win the deal and buying a major business.

But as the two work together, they find themselves drawn to each other.  But both knowing how can they have a relationship when they live so far apart?

Will the Christmas spirit touch their hearts and help them find a way to stay together?

As mentioned, “Christmas in Rome” is a holiday film shot overseas.  That’s something that doesn’t happen as most holiday films are shot in a small town or usually in North America.

This time around, we have a holiday film shot in Rome, Italy and Bucharest, Romania and what is awesome is to see iconic areas in the film with the characters walking past it.

I was shocked myself to see both Chabert and Page walking in front of the Roman Colosseum and at first made me wondering if it was all green screen but it was the real thing.  And the fact they went so far to secure rights to shoot in that area and to shoot overseas is mind boggling because again, holiday telefilms don’t have that huge of a budget for that.

But seeing how Lacey Chabert is a big part of Hallmark, producers really went all out to make this Christmas romantic holiday telefilm worth watching!  “Christmas in Rome” is a very good romance Christmas film.  Fun, entertaining and if you love to travel and have an interest in Rome, you’ll really love this holiday telfilm!  It’s recommended!
