It’s a fun holiday film but an interesting spin on the banal royal holiday storyline. I was definitely entertained by “A Royal Corgi Christmas” and I think you will be entertained as well!

We have reached day 53 and it would be the second royal holiday telefilm for me to review for this holiday marathon. The Hallmark holiday film is titled “A Royal Corgi Christmas” directed by Clare Niederpruem (“The Outpost”, “Little Women”) and written by Erinne Dobson (“Good Witch”, “Baby Daddy”).
The film stars Hunter King (“The Young and the Restless”, “Life in Pieces”), Jordan Renzo (“The Spanish Princess”, “Class”), Frank Smith, Julie Lamberton, Susannah De Wrixon (“Striking Out”, “Innocent”), Shane Lennon (“Krypton”) and more.
The film first introduces us to popular dog trainer on YouTube, Cecily (portrayed by Hunter King) who has written a book and now wanting to establish a dog rehab charity but needs to raise money for the charity.
Meanwhile, in another country, we are introduced to Prince Edmond (portrayed by Jordan Renzo) who has return home with a Corgi that he purchased from a rescue. Prince Edmond thought when he came home, the Corgi caretaker for the royal family, Carrington (portrayed by Shane Lennon) would train his dog, Mistletoe.
But Carrington refuses because Mistletoe doesn’t come from royal lineage. So, Prince Edmond must find someone to train his dog.
During an award ceremony featuring his mother Princess Victoria (portrayed by Julie Lamberton), Mistletoe misbehaves while trying to get food off the table, pulling down the whole placemat and all the food comes crashing down.
The gaffe became viral and Mistletoe becomes a social media star, but the royal family sees this embarrassment and expects Prince Edmond to get his dog trained.
He ends up hiring the popular YouTuber/dog trainer Cecily to train his dog.
But as soon as Cecily arrives, Prince Edmond is about to dump his dog to her but she emphasizes that as stated in the contract, Prince Edmond must be involved in all training as he is the owner of Mistletoe.
So, thus begins the training as Cecily must train Mistletoe, but at the sametime, maybe finding a way to tame the wild Prince Edmond and possibly make him fit to be the King.
For the most part, this is a holiday film that wins your heart if you love Corgis and also, if you fancy royal Hallmark holiday films, you’ll love the combination of the two.
I think the royal film storyline of royalty falls in love with commoner is one of the type of storylines that is done way too many times by Hallmark and holiday films in general, but what makes this one different is how they feature the royal corgis and showcasing corgi competition and also the hyper nature of these dogs. I love Corgis, but they are not the most quiet dogs and the film goes through that through watching Mistletoe go from untrained dog to being a trained dog who fancies both Prince Edmond and Cecily.
It’s a fun holiday film but an interesting spin on the banal royal holiday storyline. I was definitely entertained by “A Royal Corgi Christmas” and I think you will be entertained as well!
