The One about the Limited Edition Plarail Seibu Railway Series 6000

When it comes to Seibu Railways trains, they no doubt have one of the more popular trains to see in the Kanto region. From the yellow 101, 2000 and 9000 series, the gray/bluish green 40000 series and the futuristic 001 series Laview to name a few.

But the Seibu 6000 series when it was first introduced back in 1992 celebrated its 30th anniversary of the train’s debut.  And it also is commercialized as a Plarail for the very first time, which is surprising considering the train has been around for several decades.

I have ridden this train on the Seibu Ikebukuro line but it was a train that has been used on various lines such as Seibu Shinjuku, Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, Minatomirai Line and more.

In April 2023, a refurbished stainless steel set 6107 made its debut and to celebrate this train, a limited edition Plarail of the Seibu Railway Series 6000 was released on December 2022.

For those not familiar with limited edition Plarail, these plastic trains can ride on Plarail tracks and is powered by a single AA battery like regular Plarail trains.  But what makes it different from standard Plarail is that it’s not released in most stores and can only be purchased at Seibu Railway Station Naka Convenience Store “Tomony” and Seibu Railway Online Shop.

Granted, you may be able to purchase it through third party sellers via eBay, Yahoo! Auctions or Amazon JP.

Another difference is pricing.  Where normal Plarail tends to be around Y1700 (retail around Y2600), because these are limited, they do not go below their sales price of Y3300.

This is a three car train with the lead car running on a single AA battery.  The lead car uses the standard rubber wheels and white couplers.

The train is one speed, Off and On and can also be hand rolled.  A plastic train card is included but AA batteries and rails are sold separately.

While the front of the 6600 is well-known with its big window on its left and windshield wipers.  And a smaller window towards its right.  But possibly what makes this Plarail stand out is its many windows.  The windows really gives this Plarail an original look.  And also I like the detail of the ridges on the side of the train cars.

The paints are also well-done and the Seibu Railway logo sticker on the train is a wonderful touch.

I have to admit that this Plarail train is well-made and with its distinct windows and detail on its side panel and top cooler section is awesome and this release puts it along with other Plarail trains that are highly rated.

For those who are on the fence of getting this because of its price, again, this is a limited edition Plarail and only so much are made.  And once they are sold out, they are sold out and become hard to obtain.

So for me, being a fan of Seibu Railways trains, I am glad to have this in my Plarail train collection.

The Limited Edition Plarail Seibu Railway Series 6000 is highly recommended!
