A couple falls crazy in love, only to break up right before all the big holiday parties. It’s Suckville, so they pretend to still be mad for each other instead of mad at each other. It’s the perfect plan-if they don’t fall back in love.

We have reached day 55 of the Holiday Marathon and I’m checking out “Holiday Breakup”.

And this one was something I wanted to see primarily it stars comedian Manon Mathews. And while this was shot before TikTok became popular (she was gaining popularity on Vine with three million followers), for those who are familiar with Manon, knows she can make people laugh and sometimes many wonder how different are real Manon and the crazy things she does on camera.

Some may think she’s crazy, some may think she’s weird, but it’s probably what makes her so popular on TikTok is because she’s odd.

And “Holiday Breakup” is rather interesting.  For one, “Holiday Breakup” is written and directed by her father, Temple Mathews (“Off the Mark”, “Picture This”, “Disney’s Return to Never Land”) and we have a film that sits Manon Mathews quite well.  Playing a young woman named Chloe, who doesn’t want to grow up.

The film stars Manon Mathews (“single by 30”, “Sorry Not Sorry”), Shawn Roe (“Please Stand By”, “Beyond the Farthest Star”), Katie Leclerc (“Switched at Birth”, “The Big Bang Theory”), Matt Riedy (“Shameless”, “Big Time Rush”, “Devotion”), Daniel Hugh Kelly (“Star Trek: Insurrection”, “Hardcastle and McCormick”), Diane Robin (“Robocop”, Sudden Death”, “Strange Therapy”), Tawny Rene Hamilton (“Gilmore Girls”, “Eleventh Hours”, “Firefly”) and Jason Nash (“FML”, “Jason Nash is Married”).

The film begins with a crying Chloe (portrayed by Manon Mathews) who takes us back when she was texting while driving and ran into Jeff (portrayed by Shawn Roe).

When they meet each other, somehow both find themselves attracted to each other and start hanging out and she takes Jeff to meet her parents.  Meanwhile, Jeff’s parents meet Chloe and his father Clark realize she is quite weird and talking to their yard animal sculpture.

Clark just wants his son to grow up and get a job and mature.  Being with Chloe, who is light a woman with a mind of a child, which starts to bring friction to the relationship because while Manon wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she doesn’t want to grow up.  And for Jeff, he likes the sex with Chloe but he is torn because at first he liked her how she is but now with life as a young adult, can he still be with her?

Needless to say, it’s an interesting holiday film.  A film that Temple Mathews no doubt created for his daughter to showcase her acting and comedy style.

Chloe is so darn weird and funny, but so are some of the characters that Manon takes on and usually posts on her Tik Tok day-by-day, making you wonder how far the character is from the real life Manon Mathews.

But I suppose because this film is so quirky and you won’t be able to predict what will happen, it’s kind of refreshing after watching 54 holiday telefilms before it.  Of course, this is a film that is not going to be for everyone.  In a way, it kind of reminded me of the Pee Wee Herman films back then.  A character so quirky and unusual but yet, some people love the character and some people just don’t get it.

Personally, I’m not phased by this type of humor and I know some women who are like Chloe (anime fans) who talk and act like a character and are perceived as weird by others.  So, I’m used to it.

So, if you are in for something quirky and unusual, “Holiday Breakup” may be for you.
