In 2006, two best albums (one released by Avex and the other from Sony Music Direct (Japan), Inc.) were released featuring the greatest hits of mega musician and producer Komuro Tetsuya (aka TK).
Both albums featured a string of #1 hits by various artists such as Nakayama Miho, Nakamori Akina, Matsuda Seiko, TM Network, Watanabe Misato from the 80’s to the 90’s music he is known for by the then-called TK family which consisted of TRF, hitomi, Amuro Namie, Kahala Tomomi, globe, Suzuki Ami, Mizuki Alisa and many others.
If you were a fan of TK’s music, you pretty much know what to expect as his music was known for upbeat synth pop dance music of that era.
But if you had to purchase one of the albums, which one would you choose?
The Avex released album “TK-THE GREATEST HITS – Tetsuya Komuro Sakuhi Shu A-“, which is an album that is definitely for those who are more selective towards TK’s music from the TK Family days and a lot focusing on music from the 1990’s.
So, if you are looking for Amuro Namie’s “CAN YOU CELEBRATE?”, TRF’s “Survivor Dance”, “YOU ARE THE ONE” – TK presents which features the TK family and other hits from those TK family days, then you want the Avex version.
But you would think those popular Komuro songs would be on the Avex version, but knowing that the Sony album would feature their more older material from the ’80s and early ’90s, they decided to put some of those popular TK family tracks on the Sony version.
As for the version I’m reviewing “Tetsuya Komuro Sakuhin Shu S”, this two-disc album features a few Avex songs such as TRF’ hits such as “Samui Yoru Dakara” and “CRAZY GONNA CRAZY”, H Jungle with T’s “WOW WAR TONIGHT”, “Body Feels Exit” and “SWEET 19 BLUES” by Amuro Namie, Kahala Tomomi’s “I’m Proud”, hitomi’s “Candy Girl”, etc., you will find music from TK produced songs that were released by artists on the Sony, Universal, Victor and Columbia labels.
Smart on Avex/Sony’s part to put a good number of those popular TK family Avex hits on the “S” album.
Also, In this greatest hits version, you will find a good number of hits from the 80’s and early ’90s on this album such as”My Revolution” by Watanabe Misato, Matsuda Seiko’s “Kimono Beat”, Nakayama Miho’s “50/50” and more.
The CD booklet features the lyrics for each song and a brief note of each song, how well it did in Japan and more.
Personally, both greatest hits albums are worth getting if you enjoyed TK’s music from the years.
Nevertheless, the two releases celebrating TK’s works are awesome and nostalgic. So, whichever your preference, these two greatest hits albums will most likely please TK fans.
