I wanted to give the Modern ŌM 108 Shungite Healing Mala Beads Necklace a try.
I have to say that I was a bit reluctant at first because of it’s higher price at $79.
But as I did my research to compare other vendors which sell mala beaded necklace and one that has purple sandalwood, they were quite few and didn’t look authentic (and way too cheap). But also, I like the fact that this company had a product that was longer in length (20.0 without the onyx pendant).
So, here are my impressions, I do like it a lot. It is long, even for a guy myself with a thicker neck, the top of the black onyx quartz pendant nearly reaches my belly button. So, it is long, but for those who want long, that’s a plus!
So, let’s talk about the actual components because I knew nothing of Shungite before getting this necklace.
Some people believe that shungite stones are like crystals and have healing properties. What I’ve learned is that many of the Shungite stones are found in the town of Shunga in Karelia, Russia. Mostly made of carbon, people have looked at Shungite as an alternative form of medicine to relieve pain and soothe insomnia and improve energy levels and detoxifies the mind. It’s also considered to be a powerful 1st Chakra stone.
Now whether or not you believe the healing properties of crystals or rocks is purely subjective. For me, I choose things a lot towards aesthetic and if it has healing properties, then that’s a bonus. But I’m not a true believer, nor am I a skeptic. I’m more of a person of if it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it’s not a deal breaker for me. But I will say that it does give me a sense of calmness when I do wear it.
For me, I’m all for the Shungite stones healing nature if it is true because I have my moments of insomnia due to stress.
As for Onyx Quartz, I have always liked Onxy Quartz….But some believe in its powerful vibrations of protection, willpower, focus and strength. For me, I have always admired rocks and crystals and black onyx quartz as pendants appeal to me. Also, it’s known for its durability.
Now as for Mala Beads, they have been used in Buddhist and Hindu prayer ceremonies and meditation for centuries. They are used to aid in counting the number of repetitions of mantras or phrases and there are typically 108 Mala Beads on a string.
108 comes from a variety of beliefs. May it be the Sanskrit alphabet of 54 characters, masculine and feminine, Shiva and Shakti. The other is the heart chakra which has 108 energy lines. The Sun is 108 times the diameter of Earth. These are just a few.
With that being said, the calmness I have mentioned, is also the same calmness when I visit areas around the world that feature Buddha.
For me, I’m not Buddhist but I have traveled the world and have visited many Buddhist statues, temples and museums that have ancient Buddha statues. So, I do wear the necklace out of respect, more than just a fashion accessory.
But when I visit those locations, I get a sense of calmness. The same with wearing this necklace, calmness and energetic.
I do like the 8mm purple sandalwood (looks black but shine a flash light and you can see the dark purple), you get a Tibetan Septagon Bead as a protective talisman and the black onyx quartz pendant. But I also like the red agate, which is known as a healing crystal that can balance chakras.
Now, for the price, you are hoping you are getting the real thing. I know in today’s world of people wanting alternative forms of healing through crystal and stones, you just never know if you are getting the actual thing or something fake.
Considering that it comes from the company Modern ŌM, that has a shop, community, blog, live streams, etc. And having perused their website, it’s a professional company that no doubt promotes mindfulness and utilizing quality and authentic materials. I would doubt any company promoting mental wellness and through their products at this high of a level would sell fake things. So, I’m believing this company is definitely the real deal!
Overall, if you are looking for a unisex, longer 108 Shungite Mala Beads Necklace, the Modern ŌM 108 Shungite Healing Mala Beads Necklace is definitely recommended!
