Jiandun is a Chinese-based company which specializes on inexpensive, minimalistic watches.
The watch I am reviewing is their JIANDUN Swiss Movement Single Hand 24 Hour Watch. That is right, only one single hand.
While the history single hand watches goes as far back to the very first sun dials from 6,000 years ago, the first mechanical time piece was made in the 14th century which were featured in church towers and town houses. When pocket watches were first made, they also had a single hand.
According to Jiandun, the watch is designed in Swiss and is imported.
With this watch, it’s a bit different from other single handed watches which feature the 12-hour marks from 1-12. This one is presented in military time 24-hour, so 0-23. Each mark represents 15 minutes.
The watch features a Swiss movement 5.124H which is known as the Ronda Caliber 5.124H Quarts movement and features a power saving mechanism with pulled out stem and is an affordable movement. These movements tend to have 1 jewel and have an accuracy of -10/+20 seconds per month.
I don’t see an easy way to remove the case back but I do know that watches using the Ronda Caliber 5.124H tend to use a 371 battery. But you may need to get the case professionally removed, because even though I have opened and replaced batteries many times before, I do not know how it can be done on this certain watch.
Now, who is this watch for? Well, for one, it’s for those who like minimalistic watches or a watch collector wanting a single hand watch. But if you are looking for accuracy, down to the very minute, this watch is not for you. But then again, many carry a smart phone, to look at the time as well. So, some may look at it more for style.
Otherwise, the watch has been accurate since I have started using it and while the current time I’m reviewing this is 1:34 p.m., If I didn’t know that and by looking at the watch, I know it’s somewhere around 1:30 p.m. But that’s to be expected for a single hand watch.
Whether or not this is for you, is depending on your taste.
As a watch guy, I just wanted to give a single hand watch a try. Granted, would love to try out an automatic vs. Quartz, but nevertheless, I can see the interest in the watch for those who like minimalism in their watches.
There is a watch company from Germany that specializes in gorgeous single hand watches, but these cost over a thousand dollars. So, the fact that this is under $60 is no doubt attractive to watch collectors on a budget.
If you are looking for an inexpensive Swiss Movement single hand Quartz watch, the JIANDUN Swiss Movement Single Hand 24 Hour Watch may be to your liking.
