For those who watched the sports talk show “Undisputed”, many were surprised that legendary wide receiver now Undisputed co-host (alongside Skip Bayless) was sporting a Ralph Lauren Polo Bear fleece hoodie ($795) paired with a black velvet jacket (looks like a Ralph Lauren Purple Label Gregory Velvet Dinner Jacket – $2,495).
First, for those of you new to Ralph Lauren clothing or not really paid attention, Ralph Lauren Purple Label is the Ralph Lauren luxury line. Launched back in 1994, this is the finest Ralph Lauren menswear clothing line, elegant, posh and uses the best fabrics and often made in Italy.
So, let’s breakdown the fleece hoodie. A typical Ralph Lauren Polo Bear fleece hoodie costs around $150 (on sale you can find it for $119 or so). The hoodie is 100% cotton, cuffs and hem is 90% cotton and 10% elastane. These have a jersey lined drawstring hood, kangaroo pockets and as mentioned, made in Italy and these fleece hoodies need to be dry cleaned.
But the biggest difference (aside from price and that they are made in Italy) with a Ralph Lauren Polo Bear and a Ralph Lauren Purple Label Polo Bear is the bear used is often sporting Purple Label clothing. Whereas the regular line tends to feature the Polo Bear wearing Polo Ralph Lauren or clothing from the other brands. In fact, in the cashmere sweater photo on the right, that Polo Bear is wearing suede shoes.
As you can see from Shannon Sharpe’s hoodie, this Polo Bear is looking suave in a suit. You’ll often see that with the men’s Purple Label Polo Bear, the bear is often decked out in a suit and looking fly!
But a Purple Label fleece hoodie or sweatshirt featuring Polo Bear usually goes for $795, the sweaters are not usually cotton or wool but in cashmere and they tend to go for $1,495.
