The One about the AncestryDNA: Genetic Ethnicity Test + 3-Month Ancestry World Explorer Membership

Many of my family members including myself utilize AncestryDNA for genealogy but also use it for AncestryDNA.

One of my goals is to get my parents to do their DNA, unfortunately I waited too long, my father passed away and I didn’t want to have any regrets, so with my mother still alive, I wanted her to have her DNA tested but also to show her how Ancestry worked.

And so we decided to try the AncestryDNA: Genetic Ethnicity Test + 3-Month Ancestry World Explorer Membership. This gives you the Ancestry DNA activation kit plus a three month membership which gives you access to records.

First let’s talk about the DNA portion. Log in and create an account, then enter the DNA number on the vial to activate it and then making sure the person didn’t eat or drink within a half hour and then have them spit into the vial. Put the cap with a liquid which combines into the saliva and shake and mail off the DNA kit.

I know when I did it, it took about 3-4 weeks to get my first results.

But as for the Ancestry portion, my mother was delighted to see records from when her and my father got married, my grandfather’s military service records and more.

But the big payoff for us will be the DNA because my brother and I have taken it and for me, I show 1% Portugal (prior it was 1% Scottish/Irish). But with my mother taking it, hopefully we can get more answers of why she and my brother are light-skinned (and also my great grandfather) and we always felt there was a Spanish component, but fortunately with AncestryDNA, we’ll learn more through my mother’s DNA. So, we are excited for that.

It’s important to note that also with the DNA, you can download and submit your information to other DNA services which go even further to your ancestry comparing family members with certain diseases or things that one has and the other doesn’t (ie. such as why is my brother balding, I’m not, what diseases are found in our DNA, etc.) and others that even compare DNA to prehistoric DNA and more.

Overall, from my mother’s experience to my experience, we have had only positive to say about Ancestry and we look forward to the results! We do recommend it!
