The One about the Gevalia Espresso Luminous

Today’s coffee review is for Gevalia Espresso’s “Luminous” which is to be used with NESPRESSO Original machines (not compatible with Vertuo) and comes with a pack of 60 capsules (10 count for a pack of 6 boxes).

Different than my NESPRESSO capsules, these are not aluminum capsules.  Gevalia is commited to sustainability and their pods and lids are compostable and are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).  And also meeting the required environmental, social and economic sustainability standards to be 60% Rainforest Alliance Certified.

The Gevalia Espresso’s “Velvet” is my first venture of trying Gevalia coffee and its from a Swedish company that started back in 1853, when Victor Theodor Engwall opened up a small coffee importing business in the small seaside town of Gavle, Sweden and coffee.

Most coffee sold in Sweden, Denmark and in the Baltic area is Gevalia Coffee.

For 120 years, it was a family company until it was sold in 1971 to Mondelez International (the predecessor of General Foods).  And began sales in North America around 1983 via mail order.

In 2011, Kraft announced the retail launch of Gevalia with a line of ground, whole bean, decaf and flavored coffee and is considered a premium brand.

Which leads me to my review of Gevalia Espresso Luminous, a Espresso Pour Espresso (lungo is slightly milder flavor but more bitter, has less crema) with an intensity of 6 and features a  bright and balanced crisp citrus finish.

The Gevalia Espresso “Luminous”, despite its intensity of 6, to me it was more like a 4. But with that being said, espresso from different countries are often different, may it be Brazilian, Italian or Swedish Espresso.

But I do feel this coffee is light, in fact, drinking it straight, it was a bit weaker in intensity that I would have hoped for.

But I do like it and I think for espresso drinkers, it’s quite low in intensity and safe for people who are unsure and want to drink it straight without cream.

The Gevalia Espresso Luminous is for those who can’t take anything too strong and if you are looking for something light, then the Gevaia Espresso Luminous is for you!
