The One about Henry Kapono’s “Dukes on Sunday 2”

When it comes to legendary Hawaiian musicians that are still alive and performing today, Henry Kapono Ka’aihue (Henry Kapono) is one of the most well-known names.

One half of the popular Hawaiian pop music duo Cecilio & Kapono (aka “C and K”, alongside Cecilio David Rodriguez) which was formed back in 1973 and earned them the reputation of “Simon and Garfunkel of Hawaii”.

Winner of 18 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaii’s “Grammy” awards) which include “Male Vocalist of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, “Single of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, “Rock Album of the Year”, “Best EP”, to name a few.  In fact, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles and the Hawaiian Convention Center paid tribute to the legacy of Henry’s Music in 2017.

And in 2018, Kapono launched the Henry Kapono Foundation supporting Hawai’i’s music and even wrote an award-winning children’s book, “A Beautiful Hawaiian Day”.

Henry also appeared in the film “Waterworld” back in 1995 and appeared on TV series such as “Hawaii Five-0”, “Magnum, P.I.” and more!

He has been a well-known face to music lovers of Hawaiian music and tourists as he performs live at Duke’s Waikiki on Sundays as part of “Dukes on Sunday” (where he has performed every Sunday since 1994) which is streamed to everyone live on his Facebook page (every Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. HST).

With a first live album released back in 2005, in 2014, he released his second live album titled “Dukes on Sunday 2”.

This is a live album which one would expect to hear people enjoying the performance and for those familiar with the Facebook live streams, fortunately you are not going to hear waiters and people talking about food, this is strictly focused on Henry and the band performing with people cheering on.

You get covers of “Europa”, Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville”, an alternative style version of The Eagles “Hotel California”, Santana’s “Black Magic Woman”, Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and more!

About an hour and 15 minutes, you can find purchase the music from various online streaming sites (I caution people not to purchase the CD’s from third party sellers selling for $100 for a CD, that’s insane!). If you want the CD, please purchase from Henry Kapono’s website and you can also get an autograph CD!

Overall, a fantastic live CD featuring Hawaiian music legend, Henry Kapono!
