Q&A: The One about Answering Your Questions Part III

It’s time to do another Q&A…

A.  What do you do to prepare for long walking when you go to Japan?

I walk a few miles per day, get my legs ready and my feet.  It’s important that if you have shoes and socks you want to wear on your trip, start using those weeks in advance to get accustomed to it.

I also make sure I use running shoes with good padding (as I’m a heel striker) and I also bring a lot of band-aids and moleskin, in case I get blisters.

B.  What tips do you have for souvenir shopping?

It depends.  You can’t go wrong with candies from another country or magnets and key chains.   But it always depends on your budget.

C.  Do you use AirBNB in Japan?

No.  Many of my friends have and they love it.  But for me, I’m particular with where I sleep, I want to know I have a room ready and it’s right by a JR station and the Yamanote Line is nearby.

D.  Do you plan ahead on a trip or do you just go and experience things spontaneously?

I am a planner and plan things with optional choices, especially if I want to go out and have fun on my own and do whatever I want (in which I can experience things spontaneously).

E.  Do you go solo or with a group?

I tend to travel solo if the country is safe.  Otherwise, with a group if myself and friends need to watch over each other’s camera gear.

F. Do you bring a DSLR when you travel to another country?

No, I haven’t since 2016. I bring two high-end point and shoots, and they are light, easy to carry and I’m good with that!  While I prefer my photos with a DSLR, I don’t miss walking long distances with the heavy glass in my bags and DSLR.

But I still buy a lot of memory cards before traveling overseas.
