The One about the Australian restaurant, bills in Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando

Located in Omotesando at Tokyu Plaza is an Australian restaurant known as bills.

bills is a restaurant located in Australia, the UK, US (Honolulu, Hawaii), Korea and in Japan.

In numerous areas in Japan in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka and Fukuoka and is owned by Bill Granger, an Australian restaurateur and food writer who has written 11 cookbooks, selling in excess of 1 million copies and has made five cookery series seen in over 30 countries.

Granger opened his first restaurant in Sydney’s Darlinghurst and became beloved by people for their legendary breakfasts served at a central communal table.  Especially for their ricotta hotcakes!  And it’s one of the few locations in Omotesando that is open at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and open through 11 p.m.

In 2008, bills went international starting in Tokyo, onto London, Honolulu and Seoul.  And I decided to go to the cool Tokyu Plaza to try bills.

It’s one of the cool restaurants to visit in Omotesando because it’s close to the terrace rooftop of Tokyu Plaza and it gives you great areas to take pictures overlooking Omotesando (which I will review in a blog post in the near future).

But the restaurant is quite beautiful inside with books everywhere.  In fact, they have their own, large collection of books and saw people chilling and reading a book at the restaurant.  I also saw a wine bar.

While bills is known for its fluffy pancakes in the morning, I was there during the early evening and decided to try their wagyu burger, which costs around Y2400 has has grilled swiss, dill pickles, smoked chilli, onion aioli and a maple bacon crumb.

So, at Y2400, this now makes it my most expensive, regular-sized burger in Tokyo (Blacows in Ebisu moves to #2) which I have ordered.

If there was one thing about bills that I dislike, it’s the amount of time from when you order to how long it takes to be served.  The place does get busy but the waiter and waitress had to keep checking, as it was taking a long time.  So, just know that you may have to wait awhile for your food.

For the most part, the Wagyu burger was delicious but did it stand out for me, compared to similar type of burgers?  While its pricepoint would make one feel they are eating something quite special for the price but for me, it was delicious but does it warrant the Y2400?  It’s subjective, but in my personal opinion, you can get more for your yen at other gourmet burger shops.

But at the same time, I do feel that bills offers wonderful atmosphere and is a very cool place to eat in Omotesando.

It’s important to note that smoothies, frappes, shakes, sodas are Y800 or over. So, expect to pay quite a bit for beverages.

But overall, bills is a very good, yet pricey restaurant to visit!  Great atmosphere, cool surroundings but it’s a restaurant where you may have to wait longer than usual to receive your food.
