The One about SomiSomi – Soft Serve & Taiyaki

There is a trend that is growing around California and that is soft serve and taiyaki coming together as one!

And one popular shop that has attracted thousands upon thousands of people throughout California (including Texas and Hawaii) is SomiSomi and they put a Korean spin ala Ah boong, which is a combination of taiyaki/bungeoppang (a fish shaped pastry) and ice cream.

So, you have a crispy pastry and inside, you can ask for red bean paste, custard or Nutella and topped with ice cream (matcha, ube, milk or black sesame) and add your own toppings.  Through my observation, the macaron was the most popular topping and you can add more, such as Fruity Pebbles, Captain Crunch, Graham Cracker, Cocoa Pebbles, Oreo Crumbs or Coconut Flakes.

For me, the fact they had Ube was enough!  I absolutely love Ube ice cream!

The only thing is that you will want to eat it quickly as the pastry heats up the ice cream and it can get a little messy, as I learned from trying to take pictures and holding it and noticing the melting of ice cream down my fingers.  So, have napkins ready while you wait.

But overall, SomiSomi was quite awesome and every positive review I have read about this place was no doubt on point!  Highly recommended!
