The One about Souffle’s in Los Angeles

I’ve eaten at the best pancake locations in Tokyo, and wished there was a restaurant that sold the fluffy style in California.

It was a surprise to me when my brother told me there was a location in Los Angeles’ Korea Town called Souffle’s.

I was recently in Los Angeles for KCON LA 2019 and we had to give this place a try!

Souffle’s is located in a Korean shopping complex.

Before going in, there is a sign showing other items the restaurant is selling.

Wow! The place sells macaron, mochi ice cream, shaved ice and pancakes?   That’s pretty cool!

As we went inside, we were seated and for the most part, there is a good number of seating, the interior of the restaurant was clean and customer service was excellent!

For a drink, I noticed they had ube latte. Ube is a purple yam and what’s interesting is that years ago, you wouldn’t find ube in a restaurant unless it was a Filipino restaurant.  If there was a yam, it was typically taro.  But this year, I noticed more locations in Koreatown promoting ube drinks and ice cream, which is pretty awesome.

The resturant owner (the restaurant is Korean-owned) came by to deliver and recommended me to stir my ube latte which then made it become dark purple.

When it came to the pancakes, I ordered the recommended tiramisu pancakes, the others ordered a matcha pancake and a strawberry pancake.

As I ate the tiramisu pancakes, I absolutely loved how moist these pancakes were.  I have to admit that when I first ordered, part of the reason I chose the tiramisu, I thought it was blue or blackberries on top.  But it turns out that on top was boba (tapioca balls).

Nevertheless, we were impressed and we felt the moistness of the pancakes were just as good as what we had in Tokyo, minus the long lines!

So, if you have traveled to Asia and loved the gourmet style of pancakes, not the western style that many of us in America have grown up eating, and are craving it quality pancakes, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Overall, Souffle’s is highly recommended!
