The One about the Railways Extending Operating Hours During the Tokyo Olympics 2020

One of the good things about having the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is that major railway and metro operators will be extending their operating hours every day during the Tokyo Olympics.

Granted, this means Tokyo only and with that, the Yamanote Line which people wish would run past 2 a.m. will during this time.

In Japan, trains stop running at 1:00 a.m. and between 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m., there is always a mad rush of people trying to get back home after a night out.

But there are concerns with a few Japanese about the Olympics and also what will transpire late at night.  Sure, there will be a lot of partying and drinking but that’s what worries them.  It’s already congested and the last thing people want is someone who’s never been to Japan and is wild to go crazy on a train.  Let alone cheek to cheek, packed like sardines during the intense heat and aroma of B.O. is at its strongest.

But I can understand the concern by Japanese.  I think its partly from what people see of football (soccer) fans from other countries on television.  People going crazy and they think those crazy mannerisms will be brought to Japan.  And if you have ever been to a World Cup or rowdy soccer match, let alone an Olympic event, you are going to see rowdy fans.  It’s the nature of the game.

But personally, while I think it will be busy and crazy, I don’t think it’s going to be super wild and crazy, because when people feel that crazy heat and humidity during the summer, most people may find it much better to be in their hotel rooms or some home with the AC set at low.

But definitely expect to Yamanote Line to be packed around Shibuya-ku and Shinjuku areas.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see…
