The One about Katsuta Station in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki

For those who are traveling to Ibaraki from Tokyo will no doubt be taking the Joban Line from Ueno Station to Katsuta Station in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki.

The station (which is operated by East Japan Railway Company – JR East) first opened back in March 1910 and has three lines: Minato, Joban and Mito.

When the station first opened, it was primarily for handling of passengers and cargo.

And for the most part, the station has long been around but unfortunately the ceiling was damaged during the March 11, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake people in the area were unable to use it until March 31st.

The station is where travelers will need to catch the bus to get to destinations around Ibaraki.

And I do recommend having Google Maps handy for this (another reason to have pocket wifi), but it’s important to know that while Google Maps is correct about the location and times, I learned that where the bus arrives and departs, was a bit different than what I had on Google Maps. Granted, the bus stops where not far from each other, but you will need to ask the driver if that bus is headed to your destination and knowing the Japanese names of the destination helps a lot but even easier, showing the bus driver the location on your phone or tablet and he/she can tell you where to stand if you are in the wrong spot.

In tomorrow’s post, I will show you images of an interest Christmas design in front of the station!
