The One about the Tokyo Christmas Illumination 2018 Part 5: Omotesando and OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2018 with Panasonic Beauty (November 7 – December 25)

Located in Shibuya and Minato, Tokyo is the avenue known as Omotesando.

Mentioned and confused by foreigners as a city, Omotesando is an avenue featuring zelkova trees and a stylish area that is home to shopping areas such as Omotesando Hills (featuring Saint Laurent Paris, Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo), Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Apple, Laforet and a plethora of restaurants and cafe’s and more.

And during the holidays, Omotesando becomes a location that people visit for Christmas shopping and experience the Christmas illumination as the zelkova trees all have Christmas lights.

Here is video I shot outside Omotesando Hills during the holidays:

In 2005, a shopping complex known as Omotesando Hills was created in the popular avenue in Shibuya known as Omotesando.  And during the Christmas holiday, Omotesando Hills is visited because it often showcases an elaborate Christmas setup.

Here are photos and video I took from last year’s “OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2017 with Panasonic Beauty”:

The area often referred to as Tokyo’s Champs-Elysees, Mori Building created the complex (which was designed by Tadao Ando) that would contain 130 shops and 38 apartments.

While the shopping center makes Omotesando seem like Beverly Hills thanks to its stores which include Jimmy Choo, Ugg, Bottega Veneta, Helen Kaminski Australia, Dior Perfume & Beauty, Shu Uemura, , Balmain Paris, Urban Research, junhashimoto, Valentino, Dartin Bonaparto, Hugo Boss, Chloe, Mark & Lona, mikomori, Y-3 and many more.

For 2018’s “OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2018 with Panasonic Beauty”, the creative team KEIKO + MANABU based in Seattle and Tokyo did this year’s design.

Inspired by the beauty of the winter sky and the Aurora Northern Lights, the goal was to produce a Christmas illumination using different materials and incorporating the viewpoint of art and architecture.

Featuring a light curtain of 6,000 icicle-like shapes including shapes of hearts and diamonds, a Christmas tree that is 7m (22 feet) changes from green, red to champagne gold and one can see the icicles change every 20 minutes from green, blue, viole,t pink, yellow and capture the colors of the Northern Lights.

If you happen to be in the Shibuya/Minato area, definitely visit Omotesando and check out this year’s “OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2018 with Panasonic Beauty”.
