Sometimes there are things that you see in social media that you just have to look at and think “Seriously?”.
I know there are various sites of the wealthy sharing photos of themselves indulging in expensive cuisine, wine and clothing (and I know I’m guilty of partaking in certain indulges as well) but in China, wealthy Internet users are posting photos of themselves collapsed near their luxury goods.
A fashion challenge titled “Flaunt Your Wealth” was posted on social media of people to show how wealthy they are and needless to say, many are taking part in the challenge and the photos are receiving millions of views and comments.
The challenge is for one to get out of their car, face down on the road, lying collapsed and surrounded by cash, credit cards, jewelry, luxury brand bags and shoes plus electronic equipment. So, in other words, looks like you fell out of your expensive car and your luxury swag fell out onto the ground.
According to Shanghai economic magazine “Hurun Report”, China has achieved remarkable economic growth and has produced 620 millionaires. So, if people want to flaunt their earnings or the fruits of their labor (or the fruits of their parents/grandparents labor), do whatever makes you happy.
And now the “Flaunt Your Wealthy” challenge photo trend has been picked up on Instagram by wealthy Internet users from other countries:
Apparently, this challenge began in Russia before Chinese netizens began doing it on Weibo and Twitter. There have also been parodies of this photo trend, from those in the medical industry surrounded by things related to their work and of course, you have the not so wealthy, showing things they are surrounded with (some making a political statement against the wealthy for doing such a trend and others promoting the company they work for).
