The One about My Final Goodbye to Tsukiji Fish Market Part 2: The Outer Market will still be there and it’s still a must-visit for foodies!

As I continue to cover my final goodbye to Tsukiji Fish Market, as the fish market’s auction and inner market will be moving to Toyosu, it’s important to emphasize that if you spent your time outdoors at the Tsukiji Fish Market, the shops of the Outer Market will still be there.

As mentioned in Part 1, The Outer Market will now become part of the Tsukiji Fish Bank (Tsukiji Uogashi) and will feature many of the same vendors and restaurants will still be there.  And yes, those delicious deals you received at the stalls will still be around.

While I’ll discuss key differences in another post, so far, I don’t know what restaurants will be available by October 11th and there are reports that a lot of the move won’t be completed to the area until 2023.

So, with this blog post, I’m going to explain why you should still visit Tsukiji Uogashi.

Prices for food with the freshest seafood is inexpensive!

One thing you will learn about the shops is you can find huge portions of food for very cheap!  And I have to emphasize, I mean Japanese pricing cheap, not American-style dollar menu meals.  These portions are huge and so delicious!

In fact, “Onigiri Marutoyo” is my favorite spot! Huge rice balls with fresh fish and so delicious and so many varieties!

Breakfast Sushi

Sushi aficionados know that Tsukiji’s outermarket is the place to be for breakfast sushi.  Sushi Dai, Daiwa Sushi, Marutake, so many awesome sushi restaurants to choose from and you will rarely find anything bad.  It’s all good!  (I meant the food, not the lines).

Tamagoyaki

Tsukiji is famous for its various tamagoyaki food stalls and again, they are cheap!  You can get an inexpensive chunk of Tamgoyaki (which is literally a fluffy sweet omelet) for Y100.  But you can get an even larger one for a great price!

Old Buildings with Interesting Signs

Only in Tsukji can you find buildings that look like they were created before the 1930’s with bustling restaurants nearby.  And you will find huge signs with fish, especially like the photo above of a fish and crab french kissing or giving each other mouth-to-mouth.

And of course, a statue of Sushi Zanmai boss Kiyoshi Kimura!

Seeing Celebrities and Morning News Hosts

Many times I’ve been to Tsukiji, you will see the news crews and celebrities there for the food stalls.

Tsukiji has so much to offer for foodies!
