The One about the Garmin Edge 520

When it comes to electronics when I’m cycling, I’m heavily dependent on my Garmin Edge 520.

About nearly $300, the Garmin Edge 520 is a GPS-enabled unit that functions as a bike computer but it’s always interesting for me to compare how the GPS s with this bike computer vs. the GPS on my watch.

What I like about the Garmin Edge 520 is that it works with Strava, you can download 3rd party detailed maps to it, it allows Bluetooth Smart Text & Call Notifications, has Recovery Advisor Metrics, VO2 Max estimation, FTP tracking and testing, you have personal records, cycling dynamic metrics, ability to control Garmion Varia devices, ANT+ FE-C trainer control GLONASS support, time in zones, live tracking with phone, ability to download courses and workouts from phone to Edge 520 and so much more!

The device comes with a Garmin holder to put on your handlebars and the Garmin Edge 520 locks into place easily.  Recharging is easy via Garmin’s Garmin Express software and integrates with Garmin Connect and Strava.

You can easily download apps to the device to your computer via connecting a micro-USB port.  You can also sync via Bluetoooth Smart to your iOS and Android phone.

I’m a casual rider and a lot of areas I ride through are residential and I have my routes planned out and do what I can to get my morning workout in.

If anything, it has helped in monitoring my rides and data, to see where I can improve and also utilizing Strava to plan and alter my routes.

But for the most part, I felt it was money well spent and I do recommend it!
