Off the coast of Mihama Town, Fukui Prefecture, a fishing crew encountered a man standing in a sinking boat. He was submerged in water up to his thighs.
Right next to him was another man clinging on. The boat was being blown over by the wind and sinking. His cell phone was also submerged, and he was unable to call for help, and they were left adrift for about 30 minutes. The crew tried to rescue the man who was clinging on, but his pants were filled with seawater and he was too heavy to pull up. They made a hole in his pants with a knife and pulled him up. They entrusted the rescued man to another boat and went to the other man who was trapped. They managed to pull him out of the tilting boat. The men were unharmed and were safely brought to shore.
Photographer: I happened to come across them. I couldn’t just leave them there, I felt I had to help. The person who took the photo later contacted the Japan Coast Guard. The Tsuruga Coast Guard Office is calling for caution, such as “not going too far and having the courage to cancel departures depending on wind and wave conditions.” FNN Prime Online
