A limited express “Hitachi No. 3” collided with a car at a railroad crossing, killing one person. JR Joban Line suspended all limited express trains and services on both lines between Tsuchiura and Katsuta.
A car entered a level crossing in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and collided with a limited express train on the Joban Line. The body of one person, believed to be the driver of the car, was found in the accident.
Around 9:30 AM on the 13th, JR East received a report from a JR employee about an “accident between a limited express train and a car” at a level crossing near Uchihara Station on the JR Joban Line in Mito City.
According to JR East, the southbound Joban Line limited express train Hitachi No. 3 collided with a car that had entered the level crossing.
The body of one person, believed to be the driver, was found in the accident. Approximately 560 people were on board the limited express train, but there were no injuries.
Due to the accident, train service on the Joban Line is suspended between Tsuchiura Station and Katsuta Station in both directions, and all limited express trains are also suspended. There is no estimate yet for when service will resume.
