Curious of your thoughts of Jimbocho winning first place on TimeOut “coolest neighborhood” (in the world) in 2025?
I have stayed in Jimbocho (in the Kanda area of Chiyoda, Tokyo) and yes, if you are a literary fan, it’s must-go to spot (it’s the home of over 150 bookstores) and there are some restaurants that are definitely worth dining, but I think I look at the location more for a place where students go to for college and where people who work in the manga industry work. I guess, it’s a worker’s town that you see people mostly there for work, to get a book/magazine easily and also for occasional dining.
But for “coolest neighborhood”, I don’t know about that. But as always, I respect people’s decision and in this case, if you are a person who loves books during a time where it seems like not many people are literary geeks like myself, the place can be see a haven.
But even for myself, with so many other neighborhoods in Tokyo, I don’t know if I would call this place as “cool”. But to each their own.
Jimbocho took first place while the others were ranked in the top 10:
- Jimbocho/Tokyo
- Borgerhout/Antwerp
- Barra Funda/Sao Paulo
- Camberwell/London
- Avondale/Chicago
- Mullae-dong/Seoul
- Menilmontant/Paris
