Shibuya MODI is a commercial facility in the heart of Shibuya that people are familiar with because it’s a major meeting point but the building has always been iconic.
Featured on television, magazines, you name it, it’s one of the tall high commercial centers that was a staple in Shibuya for many decades until Shibuya outdid themselves with even higher buildings nearby.
But one thing that people can always depend on, if you are shopping and don’t know where to go, Shibuya MODI is a commercial facility that you will see while walking around Shibuya, that is no doubt a casual, easy place to get shopping done. Everything you are looking for, may be in this building!
Prior to it going through somewhat of a facechange from it’s previous, long time look as seen below (over a decade ago) with the old Maruichi building, the building has always been a major destination for shopping and also for celebrity appearances.
But Maruichi is a building that the OIOI Marui Group had wanted to become a destination that all people can go to. This includes the elderly, especially those with disabilities, foreigners who are traveling and also those who are LGBTQ.
The facelift that this building had undergone was no doubt stylish but also giving a new statement of the company moving forward to the future.
The commercial facility opens exactly at 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the brands of what facilities are at the building can be seen outdoors on each side.
H.I.S., which I have used for travel, has a travel & wedding location at this building. For those who are wanting to get a driver’s license, EPOS is located in this building. Smart Pro Shibuya is there for those who want to repair their smartphone. Photoism is a place where people can get their photos printed. A kiosk for those needing to get change, can visit Pocket Change and the Lemon Company that sells cameras are on the first floor.
First floor people can find Onitsuka Tiger and a food court with SHIBUYA BASE Food Space, Marion Crepes and more.
Anime fans looking for things to purchase can visit the 2nd floor for Tokyo Anime Center at DNP Plaza Shibuya.
Starbucks which is an essential establishment at Shibuya has their shop on the 4th floor.
While those looking for books, CDs, DVDs and more can go to the fifth and sixth floor for HMV&Books Shibuya.
If you are a trading card fan, you will want to visit Magipoke Shibuya Modi Store.
Those looking for karaoke can visit the 8th floor for Karaoke Rainbow and the ninth floor features gym modeled after the manga “ONE PIECE” hence the name of the gym, “ONE PIECE x FITNESS BragMen”.
So, if you are strolling around Tokyo, wanting to shop but not sure where to go, just know when you see this huge Shibuya MODI building, you can find things you may need at this store. But also know that Maruichi (OIOI) also has more department stores right across the street and another one called Shibuya Magnet a block over.
