Every year, Game Wiki hosts polls for the best video game soundtracks, which many netizens who love Japanese game soundtracks vote.
For me, I like to use this as reference to find songs and soundtracks that I’ve not listened to before. But also interesting to see how the list changes, especially when new gamers start to phase out other gamers and you start to see soundtracks skewing towards more recent titles, and titles that were popular a decade ago, are less prominent. It’s part of life and appreciation for music and one can hope that newer gamers appreciate the older game music as well.
Of course, everything is all subjective, so if you disagree with the poll, it’s OK.
While the list is the Top Game Boy Advance BGM 2013 featured 199 songs, I am only going to focus on the top 50 and translating the titles if needed.
PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS:
This was no doubt a poll taken when “Gyakuten Saiban” (Ace Attorney) was a super popular title. But not much of a surprise that Pokemon and Kirby songs ranked high on the list. Rarely do you see sports games on the list but the “Powerful Pro-kun Pocket” editions made it in the top 40. But to no surprise, the amount of love towards the Rockman-related games and their respective songs. Personally for me, the Castlevania tracks would be much higher. Breath of Fire and Final Fantasy games would also be up there as well in the top 40, but they weren’t. I also feel “Lunar Legend” and “Golden Sun” should be much higher.
