For the tenth day of the holiday film marathon is “You Make It Feel Like Christmas”, a 2020 Christmas film which aired on Lifetime.
The film is directed by Lisa France (“Queen Sugar”, “Roll with Me”, “Summer of Sam”) and is written by Jessica Glassberg, Michael Varrati and Guy Yosub.
The film stars Mary Antonini (“Revenge Delivered”, “The Breach”), Michael Xavier (“Shazam!!”, “88”, “Rookie Blue”), Alex Poch-Goldin (“Traitor”, “Good God! with God”), Stephanie Sy (“Fubar”, “Champions”), Nadine Pinette and Solange Sookram.
The film revolves around a shop owner portrayed by Emma King (portrayed by Mary Antonini), who’s shop has attracted television host Kate Marguiles (portrayed by Stephanie Sy), so she is busy all Christmas and can’t celebrate the holidays with her father General Tom King (portrayed by Alex Poch-Goldin).
The family relationship between the General and his daughter has not been the greatest because he was busy with work and his late wife raised Emma. And now with the family matriarch having passed away, the General wishes he could spend time with his daughter but respects her wishes.
Meanwhile, Aaron Parker (portrayed by Michal Xavier) is back from the military, who also happens to be the ex of Emma. And for some reason, their relationship is quite strained. And Aaron finds out from the General that Emma won’t be coming back home for Christmas. Feeling bad for the General, Aaron said he will head to the city and bring Emma back home for Christmas.
But for Aaron, it’s also a chance for him to reconnect with his ex. But with many years having passed, will Emma want anything to do with Aaron and also her father?
For the most part, this is a charming story that does bring back the usual holiday storyline of ex-boyfriend meets ex-girlfriend but something happened to their relationship and now many years later, the two are reconnecting.
And for the most part, one knows what will happen by the end, but the reason is “why?”. Why did these two breakup and why haven’t they gotten in touch with each other?
But what is also touching is a general who devoted so much time to his country and service, but knows deep down inside how he wasn’t there for his daughter and his wife and now with his wife having passed away, he wants to spend time with his daughter and support her. But unfortunately, that relationship has been strained since Emma’s mother passed away.
But these are the type of feel-good holiday films that I like watching. And of course, with Lifetime and Hallmark being progressive in their storylines, there is also Emma’s business partner Liz (portrayed by Nadine Pinette) who is lesbian and falling for Aaron’s cousin Sarah (portrayed by Solange Sookram). And of course, the interracial relationship with the General being Caucasian and wife being African-American. So, in a way good to see Lifetime being consistent and for the most part, showing relationships that exist in real life.
But as for the holiday film itself, again, a feel-good holiday film that I enjoyed a lot! “You Make it Feel Like Christmas” is recommended.
