The One about Ōfuna Kannon in Kamakura – Part 3: The walk up to the entrance

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Ofuna Kannon requires walking from Ofuna Station to get to the location (not very far, but you have to go around to avoid traffic) and also requires you walking up a hill to get to the top.

In order to see Ofuna Kannon, there are no stairs and there are no elevators to get to the entrance on top.

Before I go on, I have to emphasize that the entrance is near the corner and not near the parking lot area.  Yes, I made the mistake thinking the entrance may be near the parking lot, but it’s not.

Do look for these light stands…

Once you get up the entrance, now it’s time to walk up the hill.  It’s not exactly a short walk up.

As you can see from the sign, Ofuna Kannon opens at 9:00 a.m. through 4:50 p.m. and it costs Y300 for adults and Y100 for children.  It’s inexpensive!

Once you pass the bamboo, you will get a look at Kamakura City from the hill.  This gives you an idea of how high one is walking up.

Once you get inside, you will see a building which is a senior center where many can be seen making crafts.

In tomorrow’s post, we will take a look at what people can see in the first level of Ofuna Kannon.
