The One about growing Parisian Round Carrots – Was I successful?

A few people have asked if I was successful planting Parisian Round Carrots?  And I realized, I have never posted about it.

The answer is yes.  But while I was successful, I learned a few things in the process.

First, what is are Parisian round carrots?  It’s a 19th Century French heirlooms.  They grow into what appears to be a carrot but in the shape of a raddish.  The taste is considered to be great and it takes 55 days to grow.

They were first introduced in the US back in 1861 and were often prepared in roasts and fancy food preparations.

I started out with a basket as I have read that these grow very well in containers or rocky/clay soil.  I purchased a food safe, big laundry basket which I drilled holes.

And carrots grew from April through August and when I pulled them out, three were big and the rest were too tiny.

So, was I successful growing them?  Yes.

But of the many seeds, was I successful in getting them all to grow?  Nope.

But it was a bit underwhelming to see three grow big but the others were too small.  But I live and learn and now it’s time to plan something new and different!
