For those fishing, sea urchin baits/artificial lures are the trend for 2026.
They tend to be expensive from the original Coike for over $20 for one to the popular brands now releasing their own for over $15 for one. But they are know to work, have great success rates for anglers and some find it worth the price!
Granted, not everyone wants to spend that much on artificial lures, considering we are spoiled with getting artificial worms for so cheap, so we look online for non big brand versions of these sea urchins and I’ve tried many.
The latest one I am reviewing is the Sitroasho 30Pcs Creature Bait for Bass Fishing – Soft Plastic Sea Urchin which gives you a total of 30 pieces for $16.99.
It seems that a few months ago, the most you would get was 10, then 20 but here we are with Sitroasho giving us 30 and all come inside a plastic container. But are they worth it?
Well, the question is what size they are? I’ll tell you these are the small size. Where the large typically are 4.33 inches and XL are at 5.1 inches. But it’s important to note that you have to be careful because you really need to look at sizes because some will include the tentacle size and classify small ones as large ones. But I will tell you that the center for these are probably half an inch and the tentacles are about two inches. Thus the 2.5 or 2.7 inch size would be best to describe this.
But can they still catch fish? Yes. In fact, while most anglers will go for the larger size for bass fishing, the smaller lure will still be appealing because they will slowly sink in the water and tentacles when you jig or twitch, will produce movement and attract curious fish.
Also, for those who prefer to use smaller hooks, you can do so with this. I always feel it’s good to have different sizes of lures and hooks in your fishing arsenal and be prepared and always experiment. You may find that these smaller urchin lures may be more favorable at your location versus a bigger one.
So, the fact you get 30 of these for under $17, it won’t hurt the wallet and definitely gives you more than enough smaller urchin baits to have in your arsenal, and you may want to try medium to large and XL next.
