The first catch of the season of bonito, a delicacy of early summer, has been landed. Approximately 38 tons of bonito were caught off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.
Due to soaring crude oil prices, fishing was conducted in relatively nearby waters, but schools of bonito could not be found, resulting in the first catch being about a month later than usual. The landed bonito was traded at around 400 to 500 yen per kilogram, roughly the same price as in previous years. [TV Asahi NEWS]
