“The Obama-Kyoto route is absolutely necessary,” “Is it right to discuss only the Obama-Kyoto route?”
Ruling party members are clashing, local governments are stepping forward with their own opinions, saying “The Kameoka route is number one!” and “The Hokuriku Shinkansen should definitely go to Maizuru,” and even Buddhist associations have risen up, saying “We oppose the extension plan!”
A chaotic debate is currently raging in the Kansai region over the Hokuriku Shinkansen, which is planned to extend from Tsuruga in Fukui Prefecture to Shin-Osaka.
Why has the route, which was once decided, been sent back to square one?
