When it comes to mechanical keyboards, a company that has been making a lot of positive noise is RK Royal Kludge.
Founded in 2015 by passionate gamers aiming to create the perfect mechanical keyboard, the group created the original RK61 which would feature high quality switches and backlighting and gain respect from gamers for its quality and low cost.
RK Royal Kludge features high quality mechanical switches and options such as linear, tactile and clicky switches.
Today, I am checking out the mechanical keyboards from RK Royal Kludge L98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. And what makes this wireless mechanical keyboard so special is that it’s a keyboard geared for left-handed individuals and made with a left-handed southpaw design.
So, what does that mean? That means that the numeric pad is now located on the left. The QWERTY keyboard is the same but that is the primary difference.
Similar to their other releases, you get three which are triple mode (Plug via USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wireless 2.4G), has RGB lighting, 98 keys (90%), hot swappable switches (PCB supports 3 pins/5 pins switches), a USB-C port and a high capacity 8000 mAh battery. That is another major difference to previous RK mechanical keyboards is that you have a high-capacity battery that lasts longer and offers up to 310 hours of non-stop use with RGB backlight off and 51 hours with RGB on.
Also, what makes this keyboard that I’m using different from a standard mechanical keyboard which I have reviewed before is the LCD status display screen letting me know that I’m on which mode (wired, Bluetooth or wireless) and the battery status as well plus volume status.
Also, this version of the keyboard I am using uses the Linear Cream Switch (Tactile Beige and Silent Purple are available). It’s important to note that you get a USB-C cable plus an extra beige home keycap.
While a clicky keyboard, the keyboard also features a gasket structure with PBT keycaps and comes with a durable, oil-resistant Cherry profile PBT keycaps for better typing feel. Also, five sound-dampening layers including 2 layers of thick sound-absorbing foams, an IXPE switch pad, silicone dampener and PET sound-enhancement film.
But for the most part, I think people who use this keyboard will like how smooth it types. But if you really want super quiet, go for the silent purple switch version. But I like the overall sound of this mechanical keyboard.
As for the backlight, you get a variety of colors. Using the Fn and the backslash, you can use backlight mode, using the Fn with the arrow keys and you get a cool Matrix style green LED lights.
But overall, the main selling point for this mechanical keyboard is primarily the fact that it has left-handers in mind and by putting the number key pad to the left, may make this mechanical keyboard worth it! And because the QwERTY keyboard is still the same, for those who share a computer and are right handed, will have no problems whatsoever.
But overall, the RK ROYAL KLUDGE L98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard w/Left-Handed Southpaw Design is another step forward from the popular and growing mechanical keyboard company and providing more choices for left-handed gamers or those needing a left-side numeric keypad.
